The Helen Suzman Foundation Opposes Jacob Zuma’s Urgent Application to Interdict His Arrest

On Tuesday 6 July 2021 Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, Approached The Pietermaritzburg High Court To Request That It Urgently Interdict His Arrest, Pending The Constitutional Court Hearing His Rescission Application On 12 July 2021. The State Capture Commission And The Helen Suzman Foundation Opposed His Application.

In one last effort to avoid imprisonment, Jacob Zuma applied to the Pietermaritzburg High Court (“PMBHC”) to urgently interdict his arrest. The application was intended to delay Mr Zuma’s arrest until the Constitutional Court hears and decides his application to rescind his original conviction and sentencing for contempt of court. The Helen Suzman Foundation, with the State Capture Commission were cited as respondents by Mr Zuma. Both opposed Mr Zuma’s applications in the PMBHC and in the Constitutional Court.

Last night, the nation watched as Mr Zuma handed himself over to the police. We await the decision of the PMBHC on Friday, 9 July 2021, at 11:30am.

The parties’ submissions and other relevant documents in the application to the PMBHC can be found here.

A more detailed update regarding the recission application will follow in due course.
